I’m your expert guide and wilderness expert, Aosha Wells. You may recognize me from Discovery Channel’s television show Naked and Afraid, where I survived 3 weeks battling the elements in the Ecuador jungle. So you could say I know a thing or two when it comes to navigating the wild outdoors.

I’m currently getting our gear ready for your next summer adventure where I will lead you on thrilling trails while ensuring your safety throughout the journey. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or new to backpacking, we have trips suited for all levels of experience. You'll learn essential wilderness skills, such as trekking, setting up camp, and even cooking delicious meals over a campfire.

Point Reyes Seashore | Backpacking

Skill Level: Beginner duration: 3 days, 2 nights Group size: 4 to 8

This is a stunning multi-day backpacking trip for all experience levels and perfect for beginners. Hiking through Point Reyes National Seashore is an amazing adventure that immerses you in the natural wonders of California's coastline. This hike will take you to 3 different backcountry campsites, and offer opportunities to explore the lush forests and open beaches that make this place so unique. As you hike through this rich coastal landscape, it is not uncommon to see the local wildlife such as tule elk, harbor seals, and a variety of bird species. Backpacking through Point Reyes is sure to inspire you and leave you with a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.

    • Quality gear consisting of tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack, trekking poles

    • All trips are supplied with camp kitchen items, camp stoves, water filters

    • All meals from breakfast the first day to lunch on the last day (see sample menu)

    • Experienced trained and certified guide(s) leading the trip. Each expedition is equipped with emergency communication devices and first aid equipment.

    • Clothes, rain-gear, and footwear (see packing recommendations)

    • Sunscreen, toiletries and personal items

    • This is a beginner's backpacking expedition. No previous backpacking experience is necessary. Our Essential Eligibility Criteria (EEC) self-assessment is available via our Resources page found here. If you're still unsure about your skill level, please contact our office and we will be happy to help you assess your skill ability to comfortably navigate the expedition.

  • Day 1

    Day one begins by shuttle or personal vehicle to the Bear Valley trailhead at 12pm. Here you will meet your certified guides and get outfitted with all the gear you will need for the trip. You'll then ascend through a forest of green to the top of the first vista. Views of the surrounding valleys and hills are plentiful and captivating. We continue on to our campsite at the Skye campground, where we will set up camp and enjoy a delicious dinner and beautiful sunset views.

    Day 2

    You'll wake up to a hot breakfast prepared by your guide and then begin the hike towards the coastline. The trail will take you along a wooded ridge-line with a vast array of wildflowers at your feet. As the trail descends towards the next campsite you'll begin to see the ocean come into view and dominate the scenery. Here, you'll want to keep an eye out for Tule elk as they are known to graze in the meadows beside Wildcat campground. At Wildcat, you'll have a chance to sit around a campfire on the beach or walk in solitude amongst nature before falling asleep in your tent to the sound of the ocean.

    Day 3

    After our final delish breakfast, we will hike to Alamere Falls, one of only two tidal falls in all of California. While there, be on the lookout for Harbor seals and Grey whales in the surrounding sea. After a tasty lunch you'll hike into some of the lushest forest on the trip, with creeks dotting the trail along the route. As we make our way back to the trailhead and say goodbye to the seashore, you'll be captivated by the many bird species as well as the tranquil stillness of the forest. The radiant meadows and wildflowers lead us back to where we began our journey and we bid farewell to our companions and guides until our next adventure.

Loch Leven | Backpacking

Skill Level: Beginner | duration: 3 days, 2 nights | Group size: 4 to 8

The Loch Leven Trail is a perfect introduction to backpacking in the alpine. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Donner summit, this trail provides a perfect blend of natural beauty and accessibility. As you hike the shores of Loch Leven, you'll be captivated by the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by granite peaks and evergreen forests. This area features mellow terrein and well-maintained paths, making it accessible for hikers of all skill levels. Along the way, you will encounter vibrant wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and endless mountain views. This trail promises an unforgettable outdoor adventure, immersing you in the beauty of the Sierra Nevada's. This trip covers very few miles, so it is perfect for those looking to learn the ropes of backpacking without pushing the physical side of it too much.

  • Day 1

    We will begin our journey in Grass Valley CA, where we will meet our guides and fellow travelers to catch our air conditioned shuttle to the trailhead. The Loch Leven Lakes Trailhead begins in Emigrant Gap, California. The town acquired this name because emigrants from across the United States used this gap of wilderness in the Sierra Nevadas to reach the gold fields in the lands below. As you embark upon your backpacking adventure to Loch Leven Lakes, you'll feel as though you're stepping into a painter's masterpiece with a rich historical backdrop. Nestled deep within the granite-laden Sierra Nevada Mountains, this enchanting destination holds a significant allure as well as a place in California's history. We will set up our first camp beside the shimmering waters of one of Loch Leven's many lakes. As your guide prepares your delicious dinner, you'll have time to connect with your fellow travelers, take a dip in the lake or possibly enjoy the solitude and insights nature has to offer.

    Day 2

    You'll awake this morning to a friendly greeting and a hot breakfast from your guide. As you embark upon the trail to the next campsite, 2.5 miles away, the scene unravels like a secret pathway, winding through high mountain trails adorned with vibrant hues mixed with speckled granite. Along the way, your guide will inform you of unique facts about the area, which was home to indigenous tribes, settlers and gold seekers. Loch Leven Lakes area was once a thriving hub during the California Gold Rush in the mid-19th century. After a tasty lunch amongst the pines, you will discover the allure of the Loch Leven Lakes as you explore the surrounding areas. Day hikes will be offered to nearby vistas where the true majestic beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountain range can be experienced as you gaze over mountains and hills into the valley below. After a cozy fireside dinner you will retire to your comfy sleeping bag and enjoy a quiet night of rest.

    Day 3

    Mountain peaks and the smell of a delicious breakfast greet you this final morning. The majestic presence of the surrounding mountains casts elongated shadows that ripple across the serene waters. After a comforting meal prepared by your guide, you'll enjoy one last day hike to nearby vistas and lakes. Loch Leven Lakes served as a gathering place for indigenous tribes long before European settlers arrived. Amongst them were the Washoe tribe, who had a deep spiritual connection to the land and revered this pristine wilderness. As we make our way back down the trail we are reminded that Loch Leven Lakes captivates the heart and soul, and the true power of the wilderness is apparent all around you. At the trailhead you'll catch the private air conditioned shuttle back to your vehicle where we say farewell to our fellow travelers and guides, until our next adventure.

Granite Chief Wilderness | Backpacking

Skill Level: Intermediate | duration: 4 days, 3 nights | Group size: 4 to 8

Hiking through Granite Chief Wilderness is an amazing experience that transports you into a rugged and majestic alpine wonderland. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lake Tahoe, this wilderness area offers hikers a chance to explore pristine forests, granite peaks, and beautiful alpine lakes. The trails meander through dense pine forests, and eventually open up to reveal panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks. As you hike higher, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding valleys. Hiking through Granite Chief Wilderness is an unforgettable adventure that offers endless natural beauty and a deep sense of tranquility amidst these beautiful mountains.

  • Day 1 | 4.0 miles

    The trip will begin by meeting your guides in Grass Valley, where we will distribute gear and fit packs for the trail. We will then be shuttled 1.5 hours in our private van to the Five Lakes trailhead. From there, we will do a final gear check and begin our 4-mile hike up to the first campsite at Whiskey Creek. After setting up camp, we will enjoy a delicious meal before settling in for our first night.

    Day 2 | 5.0 miles

    After breakfast, we will pack up and begin hiking to our next camp. This hike will take us 1,000 feet up onto a ridgeline above the trees with panoramic views in all directions. We will enjoy a lunch break to soak in the vistas on the ridge crest before descending back below treeline to Shanks Cove, where we will make camp for the night.

    Day 3 | 7.2

    Our day will begin with a hearty breakfast and time to relax around camp before hiking for the day. Today's hike will be a short couple of miles down the valley to the open meadow at Big Spring. Here, we will set up our camp, have lunch, then head out for a day hike without our heavy packs to explore a neighboring valley. We will then return to camp and enjoy a delicious dinner surrounded by the beauty of this magical wilderness.

    Day 4 | 5.1 miles

    Our final day will begin with an early morning wake-up to catch the sunrise and enjoy our last breakfast on the trail. We will pack up camp and head back down towards Five Lakes, where we will stop for a break to reflect on the experience and enjoy an optional dip in the crystal-clear lakes. A few more miles will take us back to the Five Lakes trailhead where the van will be waiting. We will load up and shuttle back to Grass Valley to wrap up our trip.
